Description: Umi watches boats sail by in the harbor of the Port of Yokohoma from her grandmother’s boarding house after raising signal flags in the morning. Even after her father’s death in the Korean War, Umi continues to raise them to pay homage to his legacy. She is also considered to be a very reserved and dutiful child, as she cooks and cleans for boarders as well as her younger siblings. Umi maintains an air of tranquility while supporting others from the background.
