Oral & Written Communication
As both a student and leader, I’ve had many opportunities to enhance and practice my oral & written communication skills. While I frequently give presentations and write papers for different classes, I also have the unique ability to lead workshops as the President of the AIGA Student Group at IU. Below is a video recording of one of my lectures that I taught in Fall 2020, which is a demonstration of my oral communication skills. You can also find the workshop presentation I made just below the video, which showcases my written communication skills.
Print Production Lecture
I taught this lecture in the Fall 2020 semester when I was training to become President of AIGA. Officers are allowed to pick any topic to lead a lecture on, and I chose Print Production/Adobe InDesign because I’d been using the software since high school. This was the first workshop I’d ever taught, and it was scheduled to run for about an hour. The attendees were a mix of design students from different grade and skill levels, and as a result of the varying audience, I had to not only make sure I communicated slowly enough so that the beginners could follow along but also make sure that this workshop wasn’t boring for an advanced designer. Staying calm and remembering these guidelines, I was able to lead a successful and helpful workshop. It was also a very fun experience, and I’ve been teaching every semester ever since.
