Body. Mind. Soul.

My video is titled Body, Mind and Soul, and it is split up into three chapters that each explore a different aspect of the theme “multiple bodies.” The first chapter—Body—features a contemporary dancer freestyling on the roof of a parking garage during golden hour. This chapter was shot in one-take and the camera continually zooms in and out while maintaining focus on the dancer’s movements. The second chapter—Mind—features the headshot of a young woman as multi-colored lights move across her face. A second video of the woman is overlaid on the main video to increase the saturation of the colors. For the most part, she is standing still, with the exception of subtle head movements. The last chapter—Soul—is explored in a “video diary” format. Various videos, representing memories that make up one’s soul, flash on the screen with a voice-over in the background. None of the three chapters have visual similarities, but they are tied together by the audio. The background audio consists of a voice-over that has been edited with a “split cones” effect, ambient rain and forest audio, and “abstract” music taken from YouTube’s free audio library. The voice-over narrates the message of each chapter, whether that be exploring the beauty of one’s body as a tool to create art or describing the dangers of the mind when getting trapped in one's thoughts. Overall, the 3-minute video examines the “multiple bodies” within us.
