In Bloom
This piece of generative art— In Bloom—starts out with five concentric circles that increase in line weight as you near the center. The image feels static at first, but as you move your mouse horizontally to the right, five dots in the center of the composition begin to appear. As your mouse continues moving, a flower blooms, eclipsing the circles (which simultaneously shrink in size) one-by-one until all you see is a blob-like mass in the center of the square. As you move your mouse back and forth, the flower either withers or grows; additionally, the vertical position of your mouse determines the hues of the background and flower, allowing for vibrant and unique compositions with every movement of your hand. This piece, however, is more than just an aesthetically pleasing and trippy experience; it symbolizes how one can use their individuality to break through varying obstacles that they may encounter, whether that be the mold of familial tradition or societal inequality. The vastly changing hues also harken back to my previous video project titled Body, Mind and Soul in which one chapter featured a continuously shifting sunset lamp. This piece should be both fun to play with and, to an extent, inspirational. Viewers should feel free to experiment with the art and their identity as they explore this interactive code.
