Hi, I’m Heidi Peng.
An Introduction.
I'm Heidi Peng, a junior at Indiana University Bloomington. I am working toward a Psychology BA with Hutton Honors Distinction as well as a Graphic Design BFA. I enjoy learning about social psychology, and my design work heavily references my Asian American identity. After completing my undergraduate career at IU, I plan to attend law school, but I’m not sure which field of law I will pursue just yet.
Below, you’ll find links to my resume, contact and career core competency pages. Each page will pop up in a new window, so you never have to worry about getting back to the home page. You can also continue scrolling down for a short “about me” section. Welcome to my website, and I hope you enjoy your time looking through my ePortfolio site!
About Heidi.
I was born and raised in Carmel, IN and attended the well-known Carmel High School, which means I am no stranger to large student bodies. Subsequently, as a freshman at Indiana University, I wanted to branch out as much as possible, especially since many of my friends also decided to come here. I joined seven organizations my freshman year—including Hoosier Hosts, the Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research, the Hutton Honors Council Association, and the CEWiT REU program. But I ended up whittling that number down to three (and then eventually two).
I also came to IU having already declared my Psychology BA major, but I knew I wanted to do something more; thus, I took an Introductory Graphic Design course and immediately fell in love. I had been a designer for my high school newspaper, so the decision didn’t come as a surprise. By the Spring semester of my freshman year, I had declared a second major/degree: the Graphic Design BFA.
In addition to my traditional coursework, I am also a Herman B. Wells Scholar. As a scholar in this program, I’ve been granted the amazing opportunity to connect with students and faculty from many different areas as well as volunteer in the community. Additionally, I recently participated in the 2022 Walter Center Connect Challenge, and I won first place for my game design. In the Summer of 2022, I will also be studying abroad in Copenhagen as part of the Summer Design DIS program.
Regarding my extracurricular activities, as of 2021, I am the Sole Proprietor and President of HPdesign. I started this company as a way to increase my reach as an artist and learn more about the art & business world. I am also the President of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) Student Group at IU as well as the Creative Director of Di:verse Dance Crew. I joined both of these clubs as a freshman and moved into officer positions my sophomore year.
AIGA has really allowed me to grow my design, communication and time management skills. I am constantly in contact with different faculty as well as planning workshops with my team of five officers. I’ve also begun preparing to step down my during my final semester, which has meant training the next president as well as creating connections with other organizations on campus. It’s a lot of work, but it’s incredibly rewarding, as I love seeing how our workshops help grow the design community at IU. I am also an avid dancer, which is why I joined a dance crew. But recently, I’ve shifted more into a design and mentor position on the board, and I’ve also had to practice my organization and flexibility.
Lastly, I love public speaking and lecturing, which is why law is yet another passion of mine. Although I’m not sure how I plan to use my law degree just yet, I know that going to law school is the next step in my academic career, along with traveling internationally. But while I’m still here at IU, I can’t wait to see what other opportunities this school has in store for me.
