A Place to Play

During my stay in Denmark, I also had the opportunity to travel to Billund, which is a 2-hour train plus 1-hour bus ride from Copenhagen. Now why did we travel so far to visit a seemingly obscure town in Jutland? The answer is simple: LEGOLAND. As a bit of trivia, Denmark is the home of LEGO, and Billund is home to the first-ever LEGOLAND Resort, LEGO House, and LEGO headquarters. While the House was closed on the day we visited, we had no shortage of fun touring the huge theme park, and after we had our fill of LEGOs, we took a short trip to the Teddy Bear Art Museum to learn about the extensive history of Teddy Bears. Of course, however, you don’t have to travel that far to find a place to play.

Within Copenhagen, and right next to Copenhagen Central Station, sits Tivoli Gardens, a magical amusement park built in 1843. Even if you’re not a fan of rides (like me), there’s still lots to see and eat! The garden features attractions from various cultures, and you can catch a glimpse of various performances at the outdoor theater. A wild peacock even roams the grounds by the cafe.

In addition to this popular attraction, you can visit Strøget and window shop at all the luxury stores along the street; you can take a trip to the Copenhagen Zoo or Aquarium to get in-touch with your wild side; or you can just walk to the canal and rent a GoBoat for the night. No matter your age or gender, there’s no shortage of fun to be had in this city brimming with life and culture. Just be weary of pickpockets and all the tempting stores and food options that may push you over your budget.

(p.s. The photos below feature Luna, my crocheted mushroom, joining me on various adventures!)
